GO TRI at Accenture Mixed Relay Triathlon Canary Wharf

Back in September, four GO TRIers won a competition to be part of a team taking part at the Accenture Mixed Relay Triathlon Canary Wharf. Mixed relay will make its Olympic debut next year in Tokyo, and it was this format that the event was competed over.

The lucky winners formed the GO TRI Team to take on a 300m swim, 5km static bike and 1.5km run; with each participant completing their distance consecutively for a combined time.

After the event we caught up with the team to hear how they got on:

Carolyn, who was taking part in her first open water event said, “I was most worried about the swim phase and really didn’t want to have to get rescued, it went really well though and has given me confidence to enter more open water events next year. My husband came to watch and now actually wants to start taking part in triathlons too!”

Shaun commented, “The music and atmosphere gave the feeling of always being at the centre of the action, irrespective of your ability. I can honestly say that GO TRI has enabled me to gain a focus and get me back into competitive sport. This has enabled me to turn my health around and continue to lose weight in an enjoyable and challenging way.”

Nick added, “Racing in Canary Wharf was something that I couldn’t imagine; it was incredible, especially swimming amongst the skyscrapers. All the volunteers were really nice and always ready to help us.”

Kirsty concluded, “The setting was great, the atmosphere and hospitality was second to none. My personal highlight was the swim and having the opportunity to be part of the GO TRI Team; the event is definitely something I’d love to do again!”
